Mobile Project Manager

Description:

mPortal Inc. seeks a Mobile Project Manager with significant experience in delivering mobile applications and end-to-end discovery and delivery solutions.  The Mobile Project Manager position will be an integral part of the Customer Delivery Team, based out of mPortal’s corporate headquarters in McLean, Virginia.  The successful candidate will be self-motivated, proactive, and demonstrate high levels of initiative and creativity.  He or she will have significant experience managing large, cross-functional teams, and in working with Fortune 500 customers and associated vendors to provide cutting-edge, industry-leading mobile solutions.

Reporting to the Vice President, Strategic Accounts, the Mobile Project Manager will manage the overall solution delivery from mPortal to our Customer.  The Mobile Project Manager will understand our Customer’s goals, requirements and timelines, and work with multiple mPortal-internal teams to determine an acceptable delivery plan and timeline, while providing the bridge between our Customer and associated mPortal- internal teams.  The Mobile Project Manager will also assist in determining the overall cost of the project and manage the delivery budget during the implementation phase.

The ideal candidate has acquired a Bachelors degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience (advanced degree a plus), and significant demonstrated project management experience in previous mobile project management roles. 

Key Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Build project plans, determining the appropriate project lifecycle model (waterfall, RAD, etc.) based on the delivery requirements of our Customer.
  • Coordinate all aspects of project delivery along with the mPortal functional teams, vendors, partners and our Customer.
  • Develop Statement of Work documents for associated projects and work with internal teams for inputs and required approvals.  The Mobile Project Manager will also work with our Customer during the delivery and approval processes of the document.
  • Build, maintain and communicate an overall activities plan for each project, while maintaining open communication between our Customer, associated vendors and mPortal- internal teams.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with key Customer contacts for the purpose of execution and delivery of existing projects, initiation of new projects and for overall long-term account relationship management and development.

Experience Requirements:

  • 8+ years of project management experience.
  • 4+ years of managing mobile projects.
  • Must have a demonstrated track record of successfully leading mid-to-large scale projects in one or more of the following areas: Handset platform implementation; wireless content systems implementation; mobile applications implementation; mobile internet portal implementation.
  • Exposure to on one or more of the following mobile platform/environments: Windows Mobile; Symbian; BREW; Java ME; Palm OS; or Mobile Linux.
  • Exposure to wireless content discovery and delivery systems is a plus.
  • Good understanding and knowledge in Mobile Application development, as well as experience working with Tier 1 and Tier 2 mobile network operators.
  • Extensive experience with project management, including issues & risk management, people management, and with a strong track record of on-time/on-budget project delivery.
  • Must be able to manage a team of professionals, both internal and external to mPortal.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, both oral and written.  Must be able to communicate effectively with individuals at all organizational levels and in multiple situations and settings.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Must possess the ability to analyze requirements and propose appropriate solutions.
  • Must be self-starter, proactive and willing to learn & grow with the business.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Must demonstrate a hands-on, proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Must be willing to travel 50% of the time to either our Customer’s, partners’, or mPortal’s location(s) as warranted.
